About the Test

The Examiner...

All examiners are either currently serving, or retired, police drivers holding a Class 1 Advanced Driving Certificate and are routinely assessed by the IAM Chief Examiner to ensure consistency of standard. It does not matter where you take the Test, you will know that the standard required to pass is always the same.

The Test...

The Test lasts about 1½ hours. The route chosen by the examiner will be cover a variety of local roads and traffic conditions including driving in towns and villages, on single and dual carriageways (and motorways where appropriate).

Two or three manoeuvring tests, such as parallel parking, reverse turns to left or right and turning your vehicle round using forward and reverse gears will also be included in the test.
