About the Test
What the Examiner looks for...
The examiner will be looking for a safe, systematic, progressive drive.
He will, in particular, be looking at three aspects of your driving:
|
CONTROL
|
Smooth use of the accelerator, brakes and smooth gear change.
Appropriate avoidance of brake / gear overlap. Appropriate use
of the gears (whether the gearbox is automatic or manual). Smooth
and well controlled steering.
|
|
PLANNING
|
Good concentration and early observation. Good anticipation,
planning and positioning for negotiating hazards in a systematic
manner. Adherence to speed limits and the Highway Code. Judgement
of speed appropriate to the situation and conditions.
|
|
ROAD CRAFT
|
Good use of mirrors and signalling. Smoothness in cornering
and acceleration. Vehicle sympathy, courtesy and consideration
of others and general aptitude and attitude. Understanding of
the characteristics of the vehicle (this does not mean any mechanical
knowledge). Good knowledge of the Highway Code and traffic law.
