About Observed Drives...Observed drives can be taken at any time by mutual arrangement with your Observer, during week days, in the evenings, or at the weekend. Drives are conducted in your own vehicle after collecting your observer at the start of each run. On average 6 - 8 observed drives are required to prepare for the Advanced Test; however some people find that fewer drives are required, others that more are needed - each Associate enters at a different level. The time required does not reflect your potential ability as an advanced driver. What is important is your attitude towards driving and your willingness to learn and progress by putting into practice the aspects your Observer discusses with you during your everyday driving. Each observed drive will last about 1 to 1½ hrs, and at the end of each of these your observer will discuss with you various aspects of your driving and make appropriate suggestions and constructive comments about both your strong points and also what you need to work on to reach the required standard. He will also update your personal record card that you keep to remind you of your progress. The observed drives are intended to help you improve not just your mechanical control of the vehicle, but, most importantly, your observation and anticipation skills. Advanced driving as required for the Advanced Test is based on the 'System of Car Control' |
